Corporations and Communities
Corporations can have global power, yet their actions are felt on people’s doorsteps. They can create wealth and jobs. They can also dominate local landscapes and shape cultural identities.
Today, corporations are woven into systems needed for social justice, including housing, water, energy, transport, healthcare and education. Complex relationships between public and private bodies make it harder to know who is responsible for protecting people’s rights, dignity and ability to thrive. People are often left bewildered about accountability and how corporate activity influences law. The Centre’s multisectoral research brings corporate power, community knowledge and public responsibility into the same conversation to explore how law can advance social justice.
