Candour & Communities Touring Exhibition
The Centre for People’s Justice has taken its research on tour with its Candour & Communities exhibition hosted at community venues across England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland throughout 2026.
The exhibition tells a story of almost 100 years of history in which the law has failed to deliver trust and justice in the face of public scandals and cover-ups. Thousands of visitors have learned how the new Hillsborough Law is relevant to events that have shaped their own communities – from the Gresford Colliery Disaster in 1934 to the thousands of unnecessary deaths during the Covid-19 pandemic.
Developed through the Centre for People’s Justice’s distinctive approach to social justice research, the Exhibition was created in partnership with communities whose lives, families and local heritage have been profoundly affected by these events. The Hillsborough disaster… the Post Office Horizon scandal… the Grenfell Tower fire… these are events synonymous with public shock, anger and demands for accountability.
At every venue, the exhibition was accompanied by a public lecture bringing together a panel of lived-experience speakers, elected representatives, public officials and researchers. These have included Lee Castleton, one of the post office sub-masters affected by the Horizon scandal; Cindy Butts, the Independent Public Advocate, Steve Rotherham, Mayor of Liverpool; Andy Burnham when Mayor of Manchester; Charlotte Hennessy, Hillsborough Law Now!; Marie Lyons, Association for Children Damaged by Hormone Pregnancy Test.
The exhibition was produced in both Welsh and English, featured as part of the Royal Society of Edinburgh Festival programme and at the Eisteddfod, and remains available in digital format through the Centre for People’s Justice website.
